ABOUT US

Our Mission

AIDS Ambassadors at UCLA is an organization composed of undergraduate students from different educational, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds, who are united in the passion of changing the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Los Angeles. We work together with the UCLA Art | Global Health Center, the UCLA AIDS Institute, PEP/LA, and other organizations (UCLA and non-UCLA affiliated) to address various health-related and social aspects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. We focus on educating youth about the risks of unprotected sex and sexually transmitted infections and diseases, primarily HIV, while at the same time destigmatizing these ‘uncomfortable’ topics. Our teaching program focuses on providing resources for self-empowerment in order to help students protect themselves and spread awareness in their communities. We aim to relay information in a number of ways including, but not limited to peer education, art, facilitated discussion, interactive activities, and role-playing.

The AIDS Ambassadors at UCLA and their partners, the UCLA AIDS Institute and the UCLA Art | Global Health Center, are committed to the global eradication of HIV/AIDS transmission. Thinking globally and acting locally, the AIDS Ambassadors at UCLA focus on peer education, empowerment, and providing accessible, anonymous HIV/AIDS testing to UCLA and its surrounding community.

We also are a great influence behind the planning and running of the World AIDS Day celebration and participate in events, such as Dance Marathon, 48 Hours to Action, and RollAIDS, on the UCLA campus.

We work under the mantra of "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER."

Right now, pledging to protect yourself and spreading knowledge is the only prevention method and the only cure.
