WHAT YOU CAN DO

FLUIDSthe bodily fluids that transmit HIV

1. Semen

2. Pre-cum

3. Breast Milk

4. Vaginal Fluid

5. Blood

THE SCIENCE BEHIND HIV

Though we don't have a cure, we have the science and medicine we need to eliminate AIDS. This is only possible if everyone is educated about safe practices and prevention methods that are currently available.

START BY

GETTING TESTED!

KNOW YOUR STATUS

AND EDUCATE OTHERS

How can we help those affected and those at risk of being affected in our community? Our organization focuses on high schools in order to educate the at risk population about HIV infection and prevention. Educating the next generation about how the infection is spread is just as important as teaching them how to protect themselves. We hope to expand  to workshops in community centers and areas outside of LA.

ROUTESthe places on the body through which fluids can transmit HIV

1. Penis

2. Vagina

3. Anus

4. Wounds

MODES: aka Modes of Transmission; the ways the routes and fluids can come in contact to transmit HIV

1. Sexual Intercourse (Vaginal, Anal, Oral)

2. Blood to Blood Contact (Unsterilized Needles, Needle Sharing)

3. Mother to Child (when giving birth, or breast feeding)

HOW TO USE A CONDOM

1. Check the condom package for rips, tears or bubbles. Also check the expiration date.

2. Push the condom to the side and tear open with hands, NOT WITH SCISSORS OR TEETH.

3. Take out the condom and hold the tip. It should look "like a beanie, not a sombrero" so you can roll it down on the penis. If you roll it down the wrong way, DISCARD and use another condom.

4. Pinch tip of condom to leave space for ejaculation, and roll condom down to base of penis.

---------------------------------------------------------

5. ï»¿Slide condom off by holding it at the base. Make sure to point away from partner. DO NOT ROLL OFF.

6. Tie condom in a knot and throw it away in the trash, NOT THE TOILET.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

- Polyurethane can be used as an alternative to latex condoms. Lambskin condoms are porous and not effective in preventing transmission.

-Unlike popular convention, two condoms worn simultaneously can cause tearing. ONLY ONE CONDOM SHOULD BE WORN AT A TIME.
